Hi, I am Neha Sathish,

I’m a student by profession. I love science, especially if it is interdisciplinary, and am currently working in research in the field of biology. I have an insatiable thirst to understand how the world works and a deep passion for art and creation. Capturing snippets of the world through photography and visiting new places gives me inexplicable joy. I believe in the power of words and find a great sense of satisfaction in reading and writing.

Believing in the logic that exists in the universe is a hill that I will die on, even when logic is, in most cases elusive. Connecting dots and reflecting on things forms a large part of what makes me, me. I gravitate towards forms of knowledge that try to understand the inner workings of the universe and the human mind.
The ability that we humans have to create things like music, art and literature has always amazed me. I am an artist and writer. Currently, acrylics and pencils on canvas or paper are the mediums I prefer. I don’t think I have a preference for the literature I consume, my taste varies from time to time and season to season. I am drawn towards works that we can interpret differently every time we read it. I have dabbled with some keyboard but I am far from calling myself a musician. I love museums and places where beauty brings a sense of peace. I spend a lot of time trying to fill my everyday life with as many beautiful things as I can.
I love the idea behind photography, where you are forced to direct your focus towards getting angles and lighting right. A memory, preserved forever. A thousand words, one shot. Beautiful.
I love travelling, especially to places that are filled with locals, where you get a sense of their everyday lives and places filled with nature where your mind opens to new ways to look at and appreciate the world.
I try my best to apply creativity and rationality to everything that I do. I find that many thoughts in my head are contradictions and love embracing the chaos deeply embedded in nature.

The decision that science is something I want to do for the rest of my life came very naturally to me. I think it has to do with how so many of my core values align with the thinking that someone who appreciates science needs. I love questioning things and I am always ready to read a good textbook or paper. Breaking down complex tasks and finding solutions is my Roman empire.
My oldest memory of learning about research in biology was being explained how some tablets can have cameras to see what is going on in the human body when ingested. I think that is when I decided that being a researcher is something I could see myself doing professionally. I am fascinated by how much research in the field of biology can impact human lives. I also love the thought process behind maths, so although I am not great at it, I keep trying to surround myself with maths wherever possible. I believe that science is at its best when seemingly unrelated fields come together and work in harmony.

I have an independence streak a mile long and, value the time I spend alone but I love listening to people’s stories or just talking about science.

I find that my body comes alive after any sort of physical activity, so I am always up for a badminton match, a game of tennis, a hike or just a good stretch.

I would like to think that I am continuously building and breaking my definition of who I am, understanding that life is about this delicate balance between knowing things and then feeling like knowing nothing at all. It’s about knowing that there is no such thing as “balance” but trying everything you can to achieve it. It’s about getting better at making mistakes and constantly learning. It’s about trying your best to achieve all your dreams but having your feet firmly planted on the ground to appreciate everything right in front of you.
